Kennet Valley Group 55th Anniversary Celebrations
At last, after five years our special trip commemorating the KVG’s 50th Anniversary which is now our 55th is now happening this August. Most of you will know this has been put off because of Covid and other reasons.
Just like our logo but slightly less power, we have booked a one horsepower cruise along the Kennet & Avon Canal from Kintbury
We have been putting funds away for this special event for the past five years, so the cost will be £10 per person, with the balance of the £1150 cost of hiring the boat coming from our reserves. This means we will have the whole boat to ourselves so won’t annoy other passengers! The boat can carry 50 - 60 people. It is fully weatherproof, with a toilet and bar. They offer a sandwich, cake and tea for £12 or we can bring our own picnics to eat on the boat, but you must buy your drinks on board, tea or alcohol. Parking is in the large car park next to the canal at Kintbury, so you can come in your Triumphs. The trip takes four hours and goes through two locks.
Probably none of you have ever travelled in a horse-drawn barge, but it is a magical experience, unlike any other, and you will be talking about it for years afterwards - travelling through the beautiful English countryside, with just the swish of the water. These days we have got so used to motion being connected with engine noise or smell or vibration that you cannot believe you are moving.
Or if you prefer you can walk peacefully for a stretch along the towpath with the horse.
And don’t have any concerns about him. These are dray horses, born to do this task, and they love every minute of it.
