The TR Lakes Tour

Good news on the home front.! After an absence of several years I'm delighted to say that the famous TR Lakes Tour is coming back September 26th-28th 2025

I have offered to revisit the Lakes Tour which was started way back in 1997 by Chris Glasbey and myself. For those of you who don't know about this weekend it became an annual pilgrimage for many members and was famous for not only its social side, (who could ever forget the antics of Colin Jarry-Ryan and Tony Jeanes who took disguising a TR3A to another level) but also for navigating/exploring some of the best and worst roads in Britain.

So if you have never been to the Lake district in your TR then you should and if you , like me have been on the Lakes Tour before then I extend a warm but probably very wet welcome back.

The format may not be exactly as it was 48 years ago because at our age we demand or expect something better than a leaky tent in a field but some things will be familiar to any old stagers who want to revisit their youth.

To this end we WILL be convening on the Lake side car park at Newby Bridge. on the Saturday and Sunday mornings. That is where the famous Lake side steamers go from and its also the steam train terminus. The route instructions and rally plaques will only be handed out to anyone who has signed up prior to the event and who has paid their joining fee of £20 per car. Apart from the new bypass down to Newby Bridge, very little has changed in the Lakes over the past 48 year but one thing has changed and that is the residents attitude towards tourism. For that reason we will try to avoid the more touristy hot spots . As for numbers, when I organise the popular Coast to Coast runs I try to keep numbers down to a maximum of 20 cars. The Lakes Tour became such a popular event that we never needed to advertise it in TR Action and of course there was no social media back then either. However, word spread about how good the Lakes was and one year we had over 160 cars turn up! That caused a few headaches because the pubs just couldn't cope with the influx of TRs so that is why pre registration is so important this year.
