Greetings Cumbria Group,
Newsletter 3/25.
Would you believe it, August already, the days are starting to shorten, and whilst we still have much to do this year, we are also already thinking about 2026.
But are recent exploits;-
June saw a joint event organised by Pau Higgins, TSCC, Stag Boys and Girls us and I’m sure others, meet at Rheghed, for a drive through The Lakes to spend the afternoon at Wray Show, circumstance conspired somewhat to mean our numbers were poor really, but those who had at least part of the day reported a worthwhile event.
We had an extra day on June 29th, a picnic run, joint with Cleveland that took us into The North Pennines on a glorious afternoon, cracker this one, and we should repeat.
Then in some ways the highlight of the programmed year, i.e. TR Fest, at Antrobus. The five Northern Groups combined to put this one together, fairness means I do need to say much work was done by Red Roses’ Jonathon and Caroline Smith. I also need to express my thanks to the CG folk who rolled up sleeves to help with the Hog Roast. Most of you will know that Paul Higgins with passenger Graham Dalzell had a very scary moment on the M6 as a drive shaft on Pauls car gave up and sent it spinning. Luckily, they stepped out of the car shaken but otherwise unscathed, and across the group we put together much that Paul will need to rebuild the back end.
August saw us in the Dales thanks to a beauty of a run by Graham Dalzell, this guy does know Yorkshire, the TR is not a wide vehicle but he had us up ‘Roads’ Where the greenery touched both sides at the same time! Did enjoy this one.
....and to the next few events;-
September 4th and we have ten cars off to Northern Ireland, again thanks to Graham Dalzell.
Another one that’s going to be memorable I’m certain. But not everyone is travelling, because of this I propose an extra day, Friday August 29th.
Get back to me if you are up for this one, I’ll sort a meet out depending on who plans to join this, and a route to follow again, dependent on who is on the day.
Those heading for N.I. will receive specific detailed instruction directly from Graham.
Our programmed run on Sunday October 4th by, Mark and Ann Sindle is moved to the following Tuesday the 6th, this to make the experience easier and more enjoyable than convoying in The Lakes on a weekend. Rendezvous TBA.
Sunday November 2nd, Peter Bonsall has organised our planning meeting/lunch back at Crooklands. This WILL be on the Sunday, and then we will wrap up 2025 with our Poshus Noshus lunch at Lyzzic Hall, again all details including a list of our guests to be confirmed, but it will be Saturday December 6th.
Now some extraordinary club stuff;-
In addition to all of the above, Paul Hogan, former chair of the club, is organising a ‘Lakes Weekend’ over September 26th to 28th. I started on the Lakes W/e 30 years ago plus, so I certainly plan to attend at least one day, most probably the Saturday, to stir old memories of rendezvousing at Lakeside Pier prior to a run. If you can, get on this one, they were always very good!
NEC Classic Car Show is Friday 7th November to Sunday 9th, I’ll be travelling by train on the Friday if anyone wants to join me.
Spares day 2026 is Sunday February 8th, we will be taking car loads down on the Saturday for our usual Saturday Evening Meal and then the show on Sunday, Get yourselves organised, and ask me if you need to know any detail.
I still have stock of the Gates Barricade Ethanol Proof Fuel Pipe, - just ask. Copy of an email from Peter Bonsall;-
