LVG & de Havilland DH.60 @ 100
It is hard to believe that 2025 is 100 years since the de Havilland DH.60 first flew and started a whole family of de Havilland aircraft that so very much influenced and revolutionised light aircraft around the world. To celebrate this fact, the de Havilland Moth Club held a meeting over 2 days @ Shuttleworth Aerodrome in Bedfordshire. LVG attended on day 2 and despite a dry day the day before, we were greeted by drizzle and overcast skies. We should not have been worried as those magnificent men (and ladies) in their flying machines still took to the skies and entertained us all day.
The gathering of 17 DH.60’s is probably the largest meeting of this type for many years and is unlikely to happen again for many more. Around another 60 DH aircraft took part and it was wonderful to stroll around the flight line and be transported back to a day when the pace of life was much slower. The rhythmic sound of so many Cirrus and Gypsy engines overhead was something to behold and will be remembered for a long time.
